The Suri alpaca represents only a small percentage of the entire alpaca population. The wool obtained from this variety is often called “The Wool of the Gods” or “The Gold of the Gods” due to its extraordinary quality.
Suri alpaca is distinguished by its silkiness and extremely fine fibers. Thanks to its special hollow structure, which acts as a natural insulator, Suri wool is seven times warmer than traditional wool. Additionally:
- It is hypoallergenic,
- It does not felt,
- It contains no lanolin, which eliminates the need for chemical treatments during yarn production.
Its unique characteristics, unmatched by any other animal, make Suri wool one of the most valuable and sought-after fibers in the world.
Thanks to its exceptional properties, alpaca wool is highly prized in the market. It is used to create warm garments such as sweaters, ponchos, coats, scarves, socks, and blankets. Its soft fleece is also used for rugs and plush toys.
One of the key advantages of alpaca wool clothing is its lightweight feel, ability to retain heat, and wide climate adaptability (handling temperature variations of up to 50 degrees, from -30°C to +20°C). The fiber is composed of natural protein, with a hollow structure that makes it lightweight while providing excellent heat retention.
This fiber is highly breathable, wicks away excess heat, and creates a “dry warmth” effect. Unlike other wools, alpaca has the ability to regulate moisture, ensuring optimal comfort.
